Pop-Up Food Giveaways

At BL’s Little Free Pantries, we are dedicated to serving our community and provide food security. One of the initiatives we have launched to achieve this goal is our Pop-Up Food Giveaways program.
| BL’s Little Free Pantries | You! Matter

Volunteers are busy as bees, thank you volunteers! Thank you, Brantford candy man, compassion ministries and pop up sponsors and those who donated auction items and buy auction items. Thank you to those who make financial donations. Your kindness makes this possible. Thank you, Friendship house and harmony church, for sharing space. Some questions I’ve been asked When to line up? Only line up at time posted, not before we count how many people are in line then divide the food so everyone gets a fair share. Is this fist come first served? No, we help people accordingly, randomly Many people have deferring needs. We will often help people with infants, or people who have identified to us a need that requires being served sooner. We do not make a presumption on this; you need to share the need with us. Needs and disabilities are not always visible. At harmony church it is not mobility friendly but we will go shop for you and bring it up. At Friendship house it is mobility friendly. We are 100% smoke free environment, drug free, vape free, weapons free environment We ask you not to handle the products a volunteer will hand it to you Can I go to more than one pop up a week? We ask to you to choose one pop up a week. We also understand needs vary and sometimes you need more help. If you come to more than one pop up wait till others are served first. Are volunteers paid? No, our volunteers are not paid at this time. Do your volunteers get more than us? Volunteers get to shop 10 items before we serve as often there would not be any food left and our volunteers are patrons as well. Is the board of directors paid? No, our board of directors and bookkeepers are not paid. Do I need id? At this time, we generally do not ask for id. But given current complaints and multiple people from same household using the service we may have to change this. It is under review. Please we are strongly asking you to mind the rule of one person per household to access services to keep it fair and plenty of food for all. Please bring your own bags.

Access to Nutrition

We organize our Food Giveaways to reach individuals and families who are facing food insecurity. By bringing the giveaways directly to these communities, we eliminate barriers to access and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to receive nutritious food.

We post serving times for our giveaways on FaceBook. You are allowed to attend one Food Giveaway every 7 days.

Variety and Sustainability

Our food pick-up team collects a variety of items, including fresh produce, various breads and sweets, dairy, eggs, sandwiches, and frozen meats. We also offer personal hygiene items, diapers, and pantry items. Finally, we have cat & dog food.

Moreover, BL’s Little Free Pantries has a zero-waste initiative, reclaiming any spoiled food with the help of the green bin program.

We work closely with local businesses, farms, and community partners to provide a diverse selection of food options.

Community Connections

One key benefit of our Food Giveaways is their ability to create a sense of community and belonging. By bringing people together to share a meal, we are able to foster connections and support networks.

Many of our participants have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to not only receive food assistance but also to connect with others who are facing similar challenges.
